We\u2019re taught that all five of the Partzufim<\/em> — the primary clusters of Sephirot<\/em> that comprise the makeup of the Worlds, hence all the elements of reality — are rooted in G-d\u2019s primary name Y<\/em><\/strong>ud<\/em>, H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em>, V<\/em><\/strong>av<\/em>, and H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em> (Eitz HaChaim<\/em>, Sha\u2019ar HaKlallim<\/em> 2). The five parts of the Neshama<\/em> are also rooted in that name. \u201cThe Neshama <\/em>of the Neshama<\/em> (i.e., Chaya<\/em> and Yechidah<\/em> according to Ma\u2019amar<\/em> HaNephesh<\/em> 1:3, as indicated above) is contingent upon the Y<\/em><\/strong>ud<\/em> (apparently with the tip of the Y<\/em><\/strong>ud<\/em> standing for the Yechidah<\/em> and the body of the Y<\/em><\/strong>ud<\/em> standing for the Chaya<\/em>), \u2026 the (first) H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em> is termed Neshama<\/em> \u2026 the V<\/em><\/strong>av <\/em>is termed Ruach \u2026 and the (final) H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em> is termed Nephesh<\/em> \u2026 (Zohar Chadash Rut<\/em> 78c). (We wonder why the Neshama <\/em>of the Neshama<\/em> is said to be \u201ccontingent upon<\/em>\u201d the Y<\/em><\/strong>ud<\/em>, while the other parts of the Neshama<\/em> are only said to be \u201ctermed<\/em>\u201d one letter or another.)<\/p>\n

Elsewhere we\u2019re told that Nephesh<\/em> is in the category of G-d\u2019s name El-ohim<\/em>; Ruach<\/em> is Y<\/em><\/strong>ud<\/em>, H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em>, V<\/em><\/strong>av<\/em>, and H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em>; Neshama<\/em> is Y<\/em><\/strong>ud<\/em>, H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em>, V<\/em><\/strong>av<\/em>, and H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em> in a \u201cFull State\u201d (Malei<\/em>); and Neshama <\/em>of the Neshama<\/em> is Y<\/em><\/strong>ud<\/em>, H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em>, V<\/em><\/strong>av<\/em>, and H<\/em><\/strong>ay<\/em> in an \u201cUtterly Full State\u201d (Malei shel Malei<\/em>)(Eitz Chaim<\/em>, Sha\u2019ar Klipat Nogah<\/em> 3).<\/p>\n

And others say that Nephesh<\/em>, Ruach<\/em> and Neshama<\/em> correspond to Kohen<\/em>, Levi<\/em> and Yisrael<\/em> (Tikkunei Zohar<\/em> 70, p. 136a), or that Nephesh<\/em> corresponds to a candle-wick, Ruach<\/em> corresponds to olive-oil, and Neshama<\/em> corresponds to a candle itself (termed Ner<\/em> which is spelled N<\/em><\/strong>un <\/em>and R<\/strong>esh<\/em>) corresponding to the phrase \u201cThe candle<\/em> of G-d is the soul of man\u201d (Proverbs 20:27) (Tikkunei Zohar <\/em>21, p. 49b; also see Zohar 3, p. 187a).\u00a0Abraham is said to correspond to the Neshama<\/em> of the Neshama<\/em>, Sara to the Neshama<\/em>, Isaac to the Ruach<\/em>, and Rebecca to the Nephesh<\/em> (Zohar 1, p. 79b).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
