The word Tikkun<\/i> (\u05ea\u05e7\u05d5\u05df) itself is found only once in Tanach<\/i>, where we\u2019re told that \u201cwhat is crooked cannot be made straight<\/i>\u201d or corrected (Eccl. 1:15). And that\u2019s clearly the import of the act of Tikkun<\/em> in Klach<\/i> as well as in other Kabbalistic works.<\/p>\n

Tikkun<\/i> is used in Targum Onkelus<\/i> quite interestingly in a couple of instances. The verse that reads \u201ca woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing\u201d (Deut. 22:5) is translated in Onkelus<\/i> as \u201ca woman must not wear men\u2019s Tikkun<\/i>, nor a man wear women\u2019s Tikkun<\/i>\u201d, referring to a piece of clothing or in our context, as the thing that functions as the final adjustment of one\u2019s appearance. Also see Onkelus<\/i> to Exodus 33:4-6 where it\u2019s used to refer to one\u2019s jewelry or ornaments, which is the ultimate adjustment of one\u2019s appearance.<\/p>\n
