{"id":1979,"date":"2015-01-07T10:48:12","date_gmt":"2015-01-07T15:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ramchal.wordpress.com\/?p=1979"},"modified":"2015-01-07T10:48:12","modified_gmt":"2015-01-07T15:48:12","slug":"theodicy-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rabbiyaakovfeldman.aishdas.org\/ramchal\/2015\/01\/07\/theodicy-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Theodicy (6)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bachya Ibn Pakudah says in <em>Chovot<\/em> <em>HaLevovot<\/em> (4:3) that there indeed often seems to be no justice in the world along these lines. but he adds that the issue is rooted in God\u2019s \u2018secret things\u201d and plans (which compares with Ramchal\u2019s perspective, as we\u2019ll see). He agrees, though, with Sa\u2019adia Gaon that sometimes the righteous suffer in return for the small number of wrongful things they\u2019ve done or for them to serve as exemplars of faith, and like the <em>Sifre<\/em> he too underscores the idea that they\u2019ll be rewarded in the Afterlife.\u00a0 But he makes the point that sometimes the righteous suffer because they weren\u2019t zealous enough to ask God to judge the wrongful of their own generation.<\/p>\n<p>He then says that the wrongful often do well as a reward for the few good things they did in the world, because they will have righteous descendants or had had righteous ancestors, or so that they could repent and become righteous after all.
