Well, we\u2019re told quite simply that \u201cthe world was created through ten utterances\u201d (<em>Pirkei<\/em> <em>Avot<\/em> 5:1) and by means of ten agencies termed \u201cwisdom, understanding, reason, strength, rebuke, might, righteousness, judgment, loving-kindness, and compassion\u201d (<em>Chagigah<\/em> 12a). Those then are the mechanisms, which the Kabbalists termed the ten <em>Sephirot<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Based essentially on the verse found in 1 Chronicles 29:11, the Kabbalists termed them <em>Keter <\/em>(Crown), <em>Chochma <\/em>(Wisdom), <em>Binah <\/em>(Understanding), <em>Tipheret <\/em>(Beauty), <em>Chessed <\/em>(Kindness), <em>Gevurah <\/em>(Severity), <em>Netzach <\/em>(Victory), <em>Hod <\/em>(Glory), <em>Yesod <\/em>(Foundation), and <em>Malchut <\/em>(Kingship).
