The Sephirot<\/em> express two sorts of \u201cforward\u201d and \u201cbackward\u201d <\/strong>(movements of) light. Firstly, after the descent<\/strong> (of the Sephirot<\/em>) grade by grade from Keter<\/em> to Malchut<\/em>, Malchut<\/em> then turns backward <\/strong>(and moves on) to become Keter<\/em>, and so on in the same way until Keter<\/em> <\/strong>(turns forward and moves on until it) becomes Malchut<\/em>. This illustrates the utter sovereignty of the Ein Sof<\/em> and <\/strong>(the fact) that everything<\/strong> (manifestly) emanates from Him, and that He is the mystical underpinning of everything, as it\u2019s written: “I am first, and I am last” (Isaiah 44:6). He is<\/strong> (accordingly) revealed at the beginning as at the end. <\/strong>(A couple of implications of the \u201cforward\u201d and \u201cbackward\u201d movement of the lights are the facts that) the closer any gradation is to Him, the more magnified is it by <\/strong>(its proximity to) His Name, <\/strong>(and that) what was<\/strong> (once) Malchut<\/em><\/strong> (eventually) becomes Keter<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n And<\/strong> secondly, no light realizes its purpose until it emerges from and then returns back to its Source. That\u2019s to say,<\/strong> (until) the light actively descends and then ascends, and it leaves behind in its place below the grade it had ascended from when the light itself ascended. That<\/strong> (lower) gradation then remains there in the structure, and so on.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n This is one of the more esoteric Petachim<\/em> which touches upon many important Kabbalistic themes. Many of those are touched upon in the body of the Petach<\/em> itself and are expanded upon in Ramchal\u2019s own comments.
