{"id":665,"date":"2011-05-23T12:15:52","date_gmt":"2011-05-23T16:15:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ramchal.wordpress.com\/?p=665"},"modified":"2011-05-23T12:15:52","modified_gmt":"2011-05-23T16:15:52","slug":"zohar-on-the-letters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rabbiyaakovfeldman.aishdas.org\/ramchal\/2011\/05\/23\/zohar-on-the-letters\/","title":{"rendered":"Zohar on the letters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is an entire discourse on the mystical significance of the <em>Aleph-Bet<\/em> and their place in the Divine names that\u2019s known as <em>Sitrei<\/em> <em>Otiyot<\/em> (\u201cThe Secret of the Letters\u201d) in <em>Zohar<\/em> <em>Chadash<\/em> (1b-10d). But the Zohar offers insights into the over-all importance of the <em>Aleph-Bet<\/em> from its inception when it says that \u201cThe letters (of the <em>Aleph-Bet<\/em>) were in hiding when God formed the world. But two thousand years before He created it He reflected upon the letters\u201d and considered their role in it (1, 2b).<\/p>\n<p>Here and there it offers a lot about the letters, including the ideas that \u201cman was created by means of the letters\u201d (2, 42b) and that \u201cman (i.e., his makeup) alludes to the letters\u201d (1, 34b; the letters are \u201cfrom the point that emanates from <em>Ein<\/em> <em>Sof<\/em> (Himself)\u201d (<em>Tikkunei<\/em> <em>Zohar<\/em> <em>Chadosh<\/em> 162b); they derive from four (non-material) elements (1, 80a; also see <em>Tikkunei<\/em> <em>Zohar <\/em>8a, 105a); it confirms the role they played in creation (1, 204a); it tells of their lofty and inscrutable nature (3, 73a; also see 2, 179a and the end of <em>Tikkunei<\/em> <em>Zohar Chadash<\/em> to <em>Shir HaShirim<\/em>); it addresses the three <em>Imot<\/em> spoken of in <em>Sefer<\/em> <em>Yetzirah<\/em> (2, 159b; <em>Tikkunei<\/em> <em>Zohar <\/em>104b) as well as the seven <em>Kephulot<\/em> (<em>Tikkunei<\/em> <em>Zohar<\/em> 104a); and it offers much, much more about the importance of the letters <em>per se<\/em> as well as about the unique role each individual letter plays.<\/p>\n<p>(c) 2011 Rabbi Yaakov Feldman<\/p>\n<p>Feel free to contact me at <a href=\"mailto:feldman@torah.org\">feldman@torah.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>AT LONG LAST!
