{"id":735,"date":"2011-07-04T11:39:14","date_gmt":"2011-07-04T15:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ramchal.wordpress.com\/?p=735"},"modified":"2011-07-04T11:39:14","modified_gmt":"2011-07-04T15:39:14","slug":"the-tetragrammatons-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rabbiyaakovfeldman.aishdas.org\/ramchal\/2011\/07\/04\/the-tetragrammatons-role\/","title":{"rendered":"The Tetragrammaton&#8217;s role"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Let\u2019s return now to his statement in <em>Petach<\/em> 22 that <strong>the entire range of functions of the\u00a0<em>Sephirot<\/em>\u00a0is governed by the order of the ten\u00a0<em>Sephirot<\/em>, which is <\/strong>itself contained within <strong>the order of the four letters of God\u2019s Name<\/strong>, and which is\u00a0also\u00a0<strong>the order that governs the trope, vowels, \u201ccrowns\u201d and letters<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>through the mystical import of those four letters as well as the four names contained in each individual name.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As he explains in his comments there, \u201cthe four letters of God\u2019s name (\u05d9-\u05d4-\u05d5-\u05d4) incorporate all ten <em>Sephirot<\/em>, according to the mystical import of their essential division (which is) into the five <em>Partzufim <\/em>(<em>Erech<\/em> <em>Anpin<\/em>, <em>Abba<\/em>, <em>Imma<\/em>, <em>Zeir<\/em> <em>Anpin<\/em>, and <em>Nukva<\/em>).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first question is, how could the <em>four<\/em> lettered name of God represent five <em>Partzufim<\/em>? As he explains it, \u201cthe pointed (upper) end of the <em>Yud<\/em> (where the quill first touches the parchment in the process of setting down the letter) is (equivalent to <em>Partzuf<\/em>) <em>Erech<\/em> <em>Anpin;<\/em> (the body of) the <em>Yud<\/em> (i.e., which is fleshed out) is (equivalent to <em>Partzuf<\/em>) <em>Abba<\/em>; the (first) <em>Heh<\/em> (in its entirety) is (equivalent to<em> Partzuf<\/em>) <em>Imma<\/em>; the<em> Vav<\/em> (in its entirety) is (equivalent to <em>Partzuf<\/em>) <em>Zeir<\/em> <em>Anpin<\/em>; and the (second) <em>Heh<\/em> (also in its entirety) is (equivalent to<em> Partzuf<\/em>) <em>Nukva<\/em>\u201d [1].<\/p>\n<p>He then offers that <strong>the trope, vowels, <\/strong>and <strong>\u201ccrowns\u201d <\/strong>likewise fall under <strong>the mystical import of those four letters<\/strong> in their own way. And the same is true of what he here terms \u201c<strong>the four names\u201d<\/strong>. These aren\u2019t Divine names discussed just above, nor are they the attributes we also discussed; Ramchal explains them to refer to the \u201cnames\u201d <em>AV<\/em>, <em>SaG<\/em>, <em>MaH<\/em>, and <em>BaN<\/em>.
