Ramchal then indicates that the Tzimtzum<\/em> also enabled God\u2019s light and radiance to be envisioned<\/strong> in the first place. For before <\/strong>the Tzimtzum<\/em> occurred — and even now in the case of those <\/strong>extraordinarily sublime and inscrutable Godly levels which the Tzimtzum<\/em> doesn\u2019t affect — <\/strong>God\u2019s light and radiance couldn\u2019t be envisioned or grasped at all <\/strong>(Petach<\/em> 25).<\/p>\n

The point here seems to be that it\u2019s God\u2019s having hidden His presence (by means of the Tzimtzum<\/em>) that has made it possible for us to see an aspect of His presence (His light and radiance). The analogy that\u2019s often cited for this is that of shadows (a hiding away of light) that shield our eyes from the harmful effects of the sun\u2019s stark light, without which the eyes would be blinded by overexposure.<\/p>\n
