{"id":847,"date":"2011-09-11T16:45:25","date_gmt":"2011-09-11T20:45:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ramchal.wordpress.com\/?p=847"},"modified":"2011-09-11T16:45:25","modified_gmt":"2011-09-11T20:45:25","slug":"wrong-evil-and-injustice-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rabbiyaakovfeldman.aishdas.org\/ramchal\/2011\/09\/11\/wrong-evil-and-injustice-part-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Wrong, Evil, and Injustice (Part 1)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we\u2019d cited before, Ramchal wrote in <em>Petach<\/em> 30 that<strong> rooted in the <em>Tzimtzum<\/em><\/strong> is the principle<strong> that everything <\/strong>in the created world <strong>would follow a natural course until the end. <\/strong>We\u2019d explained it otherwise above,<strong> <\/strong>but as he himself went on to say, that (also) implies<strong> that flaws would exist<\/strong> in the course of things <strong>but that in the end &#8212; when God&#8217;s <em>Yichud<\/em> will be seen for what it is &#8212; everything would return to its ultimate perfection.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This raises the question, though, of the place, makeup, and source of these \u201cflaws\u201d, which is to say of wrong, evil, and injustice, which we\u2019ll now turn to.<\/p>\n<p>The ultimate question is how is how it is that God, who\u2019s termed the epitome of goodness and beneficence (\u05d4\u05d8\u05d5\u05d1 \u05d5\u05d4\u05de\u05d9\u05d8\u05d1), could have allowed for let alone have <em>created<\/em> what\u2019s termed <em>rah <\/em>(which is usually translated \u201cevil\u201d, but since that restricts the phenomenon to its most extreme example, we prefer to explicate it as referring it to all instances of wrongdoing, injustice, <em>and<\/em> evil, which is to say &#8212; to all instances of un-Godliness).<\/p>\n<p>As Ramchal also offers in this <em>Petach<\/em>, God saw to it that as a consequence of the <em>Tzimtzum<\/em> there would <strong>be a realm of existence that would be based on <\/strong>(i.e., that the world would function according to the principle of) <strong>the mystical implications of right and wrong, and of<\/strong> <strong>thesis and antithesis. <\/strong>That\u2019s to say that this universe would be characterized by the existence of two polar-opposite systems: one in which <strong>the <em>Sephirot<\/em> would \u2026 bestow<\/strong> <strong>goodness, <\/strong>and a second one<strong> that would allow for flaws <\/strong>(i.e.,<strong> <\/strong>wrong, evil, and injustice) which<strong> would be termed \u201cthe other <\/strong>(i.e., opposite) <strong>side\u201d <\/strong>or the root of <em>rah<\/em><strong>. <\/strong>He then assures us, to be sure, that<strong> <\/strong>God\u2019s ultimate <strong>goal is that the power to bestow goodness would<\/strong> <strong>hold sway, <\/strong>that <strong>each flaw would return to a state of repair, and <\/strong>that <strong>God&#8217;s actual <em>Yichud<\/em> would become realized <\/strong>(<em>Petach<\/em> 30) in the end, but he doesn\u2019t explain in the body of this <em>Petach<\/em> the makeup and source of <em>rah<\/em>.
