{"id":973,"date":"2011-12-12T10:51:50","date_gmt":"2011-12-12T15:51:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ramchal.wordpress.com\/?p=973"},"modified":"2011-12-12T10:51:50","modified_gmt":"2011-12-12T15:51:50","slug":"like-the-skins-of-an-onion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rabbiyaakovfeldman.aishdas.org\/ramchal\/2011\/12\/12\/like-the-skins-of-an-onion\/","title":{"rendered":"Like the skins of an onion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ten <em>Sephirot<\/em> that comprise <em>Adam<\/em> <em>Kadmon<\/em> assumed two formations upon inhabiting the trace environment: one that resembled a series of onion-skins (known as <em>iggulim<\/em> or \u201ccircles\u201d in Hebrew), and another which was the better-known straight-line configuration (known as <em>yosher<\/em> or \u201cstraight [line]\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>As Ari puts it,<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThis is the (first) way the light descends and extends from the <em>Ein<\/em> <em>Sof<\/em> and flows into the circle (i.e., the trace environment). <em>Ein Sof <\/em>surrounds and encircles the circle on all sides because it, too, has a circular aspect\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first circle, which is closest to <em>Ein Sof<\/em>, is called the <em>Keter<\/em> (i.e., the outer- and top-most layer) of <em>Adam<\/em> <em>Kadmon<\/em>. After this, the line continued to descend some more, then spread out and around and became a second circle inside the first one. This one is called the circle of <em>Chochma<\/em> of <em>Adam Kadmon<\/em>. Then the line continued downward some more \u2026 until it became a third circle inside the second circle \u2026 which is called the circle of <em>Binah <\/em>of <em>Adam Kadmon<\/em>.
